Crossman, Wallace go 1-2 in the women’s race.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Tim Costin led the Oregon men’s cross country team to victory Saturday at the Beaver Classic in Avery Park. Meanwhile, Brownwyn Crossman and Taylor Wallace led a 1-2 finish for the Duck women.
Costin, a sophomore from Springfield, Ore., finished fourth overall for his best finish as a Duck. He covered the 8,000 meter course in 24:54.
The Ducks also counted a ninth-place finish from freshman Daniel Winn (25:10), a 13th-place finish by senior Bryce Burgess (25:30), a 14th-place finish from senior Travis Stanford(25:30) and a 15-place showing by sophomore Mitch Hunt (25:36).
The men won with 37 points. Southern Oregon was second with 47 points and Portland was third with 50 points.
“Tim did real well,” said associate head coach Andy Powell. “The guys did a good job running together.”
Also for the men, freshman Colby Alexander made his Oregon varsity debut and took 23rd in 25:49.
Crossman, a senior from Bellingham, Wash., covered the women’s 6,000 meter course in 21:20 to win, just ahead of Wallace, a junior from Klamath Falls, Ore., who also was timed in 21:20.
The women also had a number of runners making their cross country debut, including redshirt freshman Laura Roesler who was 47th in 24:57.
Portland won the competition with 35 points. Oregon was seventh with 152 points.
Three Duck freshmen ran unattached in the men’s race. Matthew Melancon from Eugene took fifth in 24:57, Chad Noelle was sixth in 25:02 and Chris Brewer took 18th in 25.44.
The Ducks rested the majority of their men’s and women’s runners in advance of next weekend’s Pac-12 Championships. Among those on the sideline Saturday were Jordan Hasay, Claire Michel, Lanie Thompson, Luke Puskedra, Parker Stinson and Lukas Verzbicas.
